Podcast Episode 32: Microformats, vCards, and Structural Content

Before we jump into today’s topic I’d like to apologize for the delay in getting the current set of episodes out on the website. I had a death in the family and had to attend to those matters… and we’re still working through them. Also, thank you for all those of you that have extended your condolences and support to the family; they have not gone unnoticed and are greatly appreciated.

Today’s episode is brought to you by:

  • Joe The Green Guy: A practical approach to living cleaner, greener, and more efficiently — without being labeled a tree hugger.

In this episode we talk about Microformats, their relation to RDFa, and how structural content is very important and should be adhered to religiously.

We talk a little about the “data-dash” model that HTML5 uses. We talk about using classes to describe (not style) content to help provide additional information about what a section of content is (a person, a location, a product, etc.).

  1. Hey, I really enjoyed this episode, and I am eager to learn more about the vCard microformat. For now, I am Googling fopr more info, but most of what comes up is for Outlook. How does that tie in with what you are talking about?
