POWERAMP: FINALLY, A DECENT ANDROID MUSIC PLAYER – ALMOST

Despite having a music player built in, and many different players available in the Market, Android still doesn’t have a decent music player. Sure there are a lot of options, but none of them looks good and has all the features that we’ve come to expect in a first-class music player. Even Nullsoft’s inappropriately named WinAmp for Android falls short of our expectations.

Developers are scrambling to fill this gap. The latest, and most promising music player I’ve seen to date is called PowerAMP, and it’s so new that it’s not even in the Market yet.

Pros:
+ Very nice looking
+ Supports MP3, MP4/M4A, loseless ALAC, FLAC, OGG, WAV, TTA, WMA
+ Includes widget
+ Choose music from SD card
+ Tags, lyrics
+ Skins, 2 in beta version
+ Quickly scans files
+ Graphic EQ with presets
+ HUGE volume knob

Cons:
- Android 2.0+ only
- No Genre support (yet?)
- Not in Market (yet?)

If you’d like to grab a copy, head over to the thread at XDA-Developers and download it from one of the mirrors.

Let me know what you think!
